Step 1

1) Stain Wood before cut/burn. I use a sponge and non-toxic stain. I used 3 pieces of wood that I pre-stained before processing.

2) Select and group the pieces that will fit within your wood dimensions. I'm using 9.75" (247.65mm) x 15.75" (400.05mm) 5mm poplar. I prefer to use the "cut selected graphics option since few projects will fit on one piece of wood. Side note: I've added labels to the pieces for your reference. Remove those labels before cutting.

3) Check preview to be certain you have selected what you intended to. This is also a good time to check your settings to be sure that they are where they need to be in terms of speed/power for cuts and engraves. Another thing that I like to check is that rotary is not turned on and I have enabled the pointer offset since I use crosshairs for framing.

Step 4

4) Position your wood and do framing until satisfied that you are within proper range and your selection will fit.

Step 5

5) Let project run to completion.

Step 6

6) Assemble the 3 pieces of semi-box for the napkin holder using the glue of your choice. I use gorilla glue gel for fast bonding. After gluing the 3 panels for the base together, glue one turnkey to each side being sure to center and align properly. That's all there is to the napkin holder unless you want to paint. I used a bit of paint pen on one side and none on the other for comparison purposes. See pics below:

Step 7

7) Assemble the box for the salt and pepper shaker. I have labeled the pieces in the file for reference (that I hope you remembered to remove before cutting :-)

Step 8

8) Glue the two halves of the turkey together being careful to align properly:

Step 9

9) Place glue down center of both sides of box as shown:

Step 10

10) Slide 2-sided turkey down center of box and hold until glue sticks.

Step 11

11) Place on your table and enjoy!

Note: I have several different sizes of salt and pepper shakers. My thanksgiving pair fits this design. If you need to, you can adjust the sizing to fit your particular set. If needed, I can walk you through the process of redoing the bottom tabs when making the box wider or side tabs when going taller.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Making!
